It’s a Zeke’s Toastie🔥
Ever wondered who invented the TOASTED Sandwich?
No, it wasn’t your mum or your dad or nan😋
The first recorded toasted sandwich maker on record, was a fascinating device called a Tostwich. Charles Champion, never to be confused with the Earl of Sandwich, invented the Tostwich around 1920.
And so it began, the love of toasties with all the yummy fillings……..sliced cheese, tomatoes, spaghetti, grated cheese, baked beans, layered cheese, and melted dripping down the sides cheese🤤
I remember camping and having yummy toasted sandwiches cooked in the fire with those crazy looking toasty makers…ahhhhhh good times.
And then there’s coming home from school to throw some bread, cheese, and maybe spaghetti, into the electric toastie maker that actually cut your toastie in half diagonally...giving me that burnt mouth feeling…with the crusty edges.
Toasties have become quite the sophisticated meal these days. Along with the advent of gourmet'ing ramen, cafes around the world serve tasty treats between two pieces of toasted bread, served with a salad, and call it special.
It is special; it's comfort food with a twist. Familiarity with a pop.
This brings us to Zeke's.
One of the best toastie sandwiches ever, is a Zeke’s Gold Candied Jalapeño™ and Cheese. Whether it's top of the line cheese, or down n'dirty cheese, it doesn't matter. That said, check out Frances Nation Grocer in Christchurch Central, and try one of their yummy Zeke’s Gold™ and Cheese Toasties 😋
Or make your own!
Things you'll need:
Bread - fancy (Turkish flat bread), plain (Freya’s bread), or white azz.
Cheese - your choice
Zeke’s Gold Candied Jalapeños™
Layer, layer, layer, repeat.
If you have a sandwich press or an electric toastie machine, throw the bread in and cook to your liking.
At Zeke’s, we love to use a fry pan, loads of butter, and cook away until the cheese is fully melted and the bread is golden.😁
Sink into a Zeke’s toastie! 🔥
